(Website screengrab https://joebiden.com/muslims/) Author Miranti Kencana Wirawan | Miranti Kencana Editor Wirawan WILMINGTON, KOMPAS.com - President of the United States (US) elected Joe Biden promised to immediately lift the travel ban imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump on his first day in office. He promised to lift Trump's travel ban from 13 countries, both predominantly Muslim and African. Launching Aljazeera, Sunday (8/11/2020) in October, Biden promised to encourage law-making politicians to combat the increase in hate crimes in the US. "As president, I will work with you to tear the poison of hatred out of our society so that it can honor your contribution to your pursuit of your ideas. My government will be present as America with Muslim Americans serving at every level," said Biden. He also added to his promise, "On my first day (in office) I will end Trump's unconstitutional rule against Muslims." Biden's promises to the Muslim community Through the Joe Biden website, here are some of the programs that Biden will carry out for the US Muslim community and the world. 1. End the travel ban for Muslim majority countries on their first day in office. 2. Order the Ministry of Justice to focus on adding resources in fighting religious-based hate crimes. 3. Ensure that various Muslim-American voices are heard in the Biden administration. 4. Extend health care services to Muslim Americans regardless of their income or race. 5. Invest in the mobility of the Muslim American economy by increasing the federal minimum wage by US $ 15, strengthening the public and private sectors and filling income gaps. 6. Condemn the violations of human rights (HAM) globally including against Uyghur Muslims in China and Muslim Rohingya in Burma. During the election campaign period, Trump always accused Biden, who wanted to end all prohibitions against Muslims, including those from extremist areas, of wanting to "bring in people who would commit terror" to the US. CAIR hopes that Biden will keep his campaign promises. CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said, "President-elect Biden has promised to end the ban on Muslims on his first day in office, including (the existence) of Muslims at every level of his government and tackle the issue of racial as well as religious discrimination." According to Awad, his organization will join forces with other US Muslim organizations to ensure the promises are implemented during the Biden administration. Previously, in 2017 when Trump first served as president, Trump immediately made travel bans for 7 Muslim-majority countries entering the United States. The ban could easily be lifted or overturned as it was issued by the executive order of the president. However, according to policy experts, lawsuits from conservatives could delay the repeal process. Not only because they are predominantly Muslim, several countries are also subject to travel bans due to racial and interest discrimination. Some of the countries that have been hit by the travel ban include Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, Venezuela, North Korea, Nigeria, Sudan, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, and Eritrea.
