Biden ke Komunitas Muslim Amerika: Bantu Saya Kalahkan Trump Kompas.com - 25/07/2020, 10:47 WIB BAGIKAN: Komentar 13 Lihat Foto Joe Biden dan Donald Trump (AFP) Penulis Miranti Kencana Wirawan | Editor Miranti Kencana Wirawan WASHINGTON DC, KOMPAS.com - Joe Biden, calon tunggal dari Partai Demokrat menegaskan pada Muslim Amerika untuk mendukungnya melawan Presiden Amerika Serikat (AS) Donald Trump dalam pilpres AS November mendatang. Melansir The Associated Press (AP), Joe Biden pada Senin (20/7/2020) mengajak komunitas Muslim Amerika untuk mendukungnya dalam online summit yang diselenggarakan oleh organisasi Emgage Action. "Saya ingin mendapatkan suara Anda bukan hanya karena dia (Trump) tidak layak menjadi presiden," ujar Biden kepada komunitas Muslim. Baca juga: Joe Biden : Trump Presiden Rasis Pertama di Amerika Serikat "Tapi karena saya ingin bekerjasama dengan Anda, memastikan suara Anda termasuk dalam proses pengambilan keputusan saat kami bekerja untuk membangun kembali bangsa ini," imbuhnya. Biden juga menegaskan bahwa dirinya berjanji untuk membatalkan larangan perjalanan bagi orang-orang dari beberapa negara mayoritas Muslim yang diberlakukan pemerintahan Trump. Biden menyebut tindakan larangan yang dikenal dengan 'Larangan Muslim' itu sebagai suatu hal yang keji. Di Michigan misalnya, salah satu negara bagian di mana organisasi ini memiliki cabang dan pada 2016 Trump pernah menang, dia mengatakan bahwa dia yakin ada lebih dari 150.000 pemilih Muslim yang terdaftar. Tak hanya itu, beberapa pejabat terpilih yang beragama Islam mendukung Biden sebagai presiden dalam sebuah surat yang diorganisir oleh Emgage Action. Di antara mereka yang menandatangani surat itu adalah Anggota DPR dari Dapil Minnesota Ilhan Omar, Jaksa Agung Minnesota Keith Ellison dan Anggota DPR Dapil Indiana Carson, serta semua anggota Demokrat. Dukungan Omar kepada Biden potensial bersamaan dengan keinginan mantan wakil presiden AS itu untuk memobilisasi pemilih dari komunitas Muslim. "Suara-suara Muslim Amerika penting bagi komunitas kami, bagi negara kami," kata Biden. "Tapi kita semua tahu bahwa suaramu tidak selalu dikenali atau diwakili." Emgage Action telah memberi judul acara online summit dengan "Million Votes Muslim," menekankan pada meningkatnya partisipasi Muslim pada pilpres AS November mendatang.

Launching The Associated Press (AP), Joe Biden on Monday (20/7/2020) invited the Muslim American community to support him in an online summit organized by the Emgage Action organization. "I want to get your vote not just because he (Trump) doesn't deserve to be president," Biden told the Muslim community. Read also: Joe Biden: Trump First Racist President in the United States "But because I want to work with you, making sure your voice is included in the decision-making process as we work to rebuild this nation," he added. Biden also reiterated that he promised to lift the travel ban for people from several Muslim-majority countries that the Trump administration imposed. Biden called the act of prohibition known as the "Muslim ban" as heinous. Also read: Biden Quoting the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, Seeking Support from the Muslim American Community Wa'el Alzayat, CEO of Emgage Action said by email that the organization is trying to maximize vote gain in major states. In Michigan for example, one of the states where the organization has chapters and in 2016 Trump won, he said he believed there were more than 150,000 registered Muslim voters. Not only that, several elected officials who are Muslim in support of Biden as president in a letter organized by Emgage Action. Among those who signed the letter were Minnesota Electoral Representative Ilhan Omar, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Indiana Carson Electoral District Representative, as well as all Democrats. Omar's potential support for Biden coincides with the former vice president's desire to mobilize voters from the Muslim community. "The voices of American Muslims are important to our community, to our country," said Biden. "But we all know that your voice isn't always recognized or represented." Emgage Action has titled the online summit event with "Million Votes Muslim," emphasizing increasing Muslim participation in the US presidential election next November.
